ICGB’s Executive Officer Teodora Georgieva presented the progress on the project for gas interconnector with Greece to the members of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, which was held in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku. Georgieva was part of the Bulgarian delegation led by the Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova. The meeting was held between high-level officials from the member countries of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, representatives of the countries participating as shareholders in the energy projects and delegates from international financial institutions.

The Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) is of geostrategic importance for diversification of supplies for Bulgaria, Macedonia and the region of Southeastern and Central Europe, Trend reports citing the Draft of Bulgaria’s Integrated Energy and Climate Plan for the Period from 2021 to 2030 issued by the country’s energy ministry.

Yesterday – 13.02.2019 – the project company ICGB AD sent invitations to the candidates who qualified after pre-selection phase in the procedure for design, procurement and construction (EPC) of the gas interconnector Greece – Bulgaria.

On 7th February 2019 by virtue of Decision No ΥΠΕΝ/ΔΥΔΡ/11425/289, the Greek Minister of Environment and Energy Giorgos Stathakis granted the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB Project) Installation Permit on the territory of the Hellenic Republic.

On December 21, 2018, an administrative contract for direct grant awarding was signed between the Project Company ICGB AD and the Managing Authority of the Operational Program "Innovation and Competitiveness" 2014-2020 for the project "Construction of Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria” amounting to EUR 39 million.

On 27.11.2018 the offers of the participants in the procedure for selection of a consultant for construction supervision for construction of gas interconnector Greece-Bulgaria were opened. Within the deadline were submitted three offers from the following companies: “ESM” Ltd. Joint venture “EKO BUL CONTROL” and Joint venture “GAS EXPERT 2018”.

The European Commission has found Bulgarian and Greek plans to support the construction and operation of a natural gas interconnector to be in line with EU State aid rules. The project will contribute to the security and diversification of EU energy supplies without unduly distorting competition.
