The #IGB pipeline’s linear part is due for completion by the end of 2021, announced ICGB’s Executive Officer Teodora Georgieva

The #IGB  pipeline’s linear part is due for completion by the end of 2021, announced ICGB’s Executive Officer Teodora Georgieva. She spoke on the progress of the construction activities of the #interconnector Greece - Bulgaria during the annual Oil & Gas Conference organized by the Balkan and Black Sea Petroleum Association.

Half of the interconnector’s capacity is already booked on long-term basis and given its geostrategic location, we expect IGB to reach its full potential of 5 bcm/y, especially after the #LNG terminal in Alexandroupolis enters into operation, Georgieva said during the event. According to her, all construction activities on the #pipeline  continue despite the COVID-related challenges.

Over 130 km are already welded and 75 km have been lowered, with trenching and backfilling going forward as planned. The EPC contractor has estimated that he’s currently on track with the updated contract schedule for completion by the end of 2021, ICGB’s Executive Officer noted. After that, a couple of months will be needed for entering into operation as an independent operator.
