Statement by ICGB regarding claims concerning the use of the IGB pipeline in reverse flow from Bulgaria to Greece
In light of recent comments made during the public consultation organized by the Greek energy regulator RAAEY regarding the capacity auctions for gas year 2025/2026, ICGB provides several clarifications.
Reverse flow from Bulgaria to Greece at the Komotini interconnection point (IP ICGB-DESFA) is currently not technically feasible due to the absence of corresponding entry capacity. Once such capacity becomes available, ICGB remains ready to offer commercial reverse flow products at this interconnection point.
In the meantime, ICGB continues to offer commercial reverse capacity at the Komotini interconnection point (IP ICGB-TAP), enabling gas flow from Bulgaria to Greece and Italy under competitive tariffs and supporting regional flexibility.
Access to the IGB pipeline is fully non-discriminatory, with equal tariff conditions regardless of entry point. Claims regarding restricted access or preferential treatment are unfounded.
Since its commissioning, IGB has played a vital role in regional energy security, enabling continuous supply and integration into European gas markets. ICGB operates two key gas metering stations – one double in Komotini and one in Stara Zagora - and serves as the trusted party responsible for measuring gas flows on behalf of the adjacent transmission system operators. The company remains committed to transparency and open access and will continue to update stakeholders on reverse flow developments. Matters beyond ICGB’s operational scope, including capacity allocation decisions within national networks or import sourcing strategies, cannot be subject to comment.
