IGB is a game changer for the entire region

IGB is a game changer for the entire region and could play a major role in Bulgaria's energy transition to greener and more sustainable solutions in line with the EU’s strategic goals. This was the key message ICGB's Executive Officer @TeodoraGeorgieva shared with the high-level government officials, business leaders and innovators from 12 countries during the Three Seas Initiative Summit (#3SI) and Business Forum hosted by Bulgaria this week.

During the event she presented the current progress of the interconnector Greece - Bulgaria and outlined the great potential it has for enhanced energy connectivity in the region. IGB’s construction activities are progressing on track and the infrastructure is expected to be ready by the end of 2021. The interconnector should be put into commercial operation no later than July, 2022.

“ICGB’s team and our contractors are all working hard to complete the project successfully by the set deadlines. The gas pipeline has great synergy with other major projects like TAP, TANAP, EastMed, the LNG terminal near Alexandroupolis. Everyone involved in the project is dedicated to one common goal - ensuring energy independence, enhanced security of natural gas supplies and a competitive market.”, Georgieva noted.
