ICGB with donations for 71 small settlements in Bulgaria and Greece

The company has a long-term social and environmental commitment to the regions through which the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector route passes

ICGB provides financial aid to all municipalities along the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector route with a focus on small settlements. Within the campaign, a total of 305 442 BGN (156 170 EUR) will be donated to 12 municipalities. A total of 64 villages in Bulgaria and 7 in Greece will benefit under the campaign.

The initiative is part of the transmission operator's long-term commitment to supporting communities and protecting the environment in the areas along the IGB pipeline route. The interconnector is 182 km long and passes through the regions of Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad, Stara Zagora, Kardzhali (Bulgaria) and Komotini (Greece).

Each municipality will be able to decide individually how to utilize the funds. This way, ICGB provides the communities with the opportunity to address specific needs that are a priority to each settlement. Already, requests have been submitted for utilizing the donations for the purchase of agricultural equipment, equipment for public playgrounds, support for local sports teams, and materials for repairs and maintenance of religious temples.

ICGB is developing a number of initiatives under its "Livelihood Restoration Plan", targeting exclusively the regions along the pipeline route in both Bulgaria and Greece. The company has already successfully implemented a donation campaign to support farmers with a total of 74 tonnes of fertilizer, enough for a 10-year period. The transmission operator regularly conducts educational programmes for local communities on safety rules and crisis response related to the operation of the pipeline.
